In both Bonnie and Clyde and Thelma and Louise gender roles are switched very frequently. In the beginning of both movies the Ladies of each movie seems to be imprisoned in their lives and looking for a journey. We are presented to Louise as the more masculine in Thelma and Louise and Clyde obviously in Bonnie and Clyde, but soon the stereotypes reverse once the females are taken out of their comfort zone.
Louise was always masculine throughout the movie and did the expected when she took the gun out to protect Thelma. Thelma broke out of her girly phase when she was quick to have sex and didnt show any conservative "I'm a lady" type stuff while in the moment. She also got use to holding a gun with no problem and wasn't as "girly" from the beginning of their journey when we see her carrying her husbands gun with two fingers scared, to her holding up a gas station store.
Clyde on the other hand kept saying he wasn't a "lover boy" throughout the film but finally he let his guard down and had sex with Bonnie which had him immediately show affection and care for this woman, Clyde became sprung and more sensitive about his feelings toward Bonnie. In both movies we see everyone calm their roles and either play a more feminine role or more masculine.
